Unexpected

Nobody expected you,

Least of all me,

Yet there you stood,

Bag at your knee.

I counted the bedrooms,

I counted the days.

Unexpected, you said.

Your favourite phrase.

I’d never have called,

Too proud, too scared,

But how I’ve missed you,

More than I’d shared.
