Removing the Mask

Welcome to The Spot Writers. This month, the task is to use these words: light, new, blue, love, peace. This week’s contribution comes from Cathy MacKenzie.

Cathy’s novel, WOLVES DON’T KNOCK, a psychological drama, is available from her locally or on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Wolves-Dont-Knock-C-MacKenzie/dp/1927529387/

MISTER WOLFE, the darkly dark (18+) sequel, is now available: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1927529689

MY BROTHER, THE WOLF, the last of the series, is scheduled for release in 2022.

Removing the Mask

by Cathy McKenzie

Light seeps

through the dark.

I shield my eyes

from the glare,

not having seen

the sun in forever.

It's been dark and

dreary, what with

death and despair.

Why do I see it?

Do I see it? Is it

a mirage of dreams

and hopes?

I rub my sweaty

palms against my

jeans, longing for

another world. I

yearn for calm,

health, joy. And

peace for the world,

for mankind.

We need to see

blue in the sky

and another’s

smile. We need

dreams. Hope for

the future. What

else is there?

We need love,

to love and be

loved. To live in

harmony and

freedom. To

voice an opinion

without fear.

We need to get

rid of these

freakin’ masks.
